Pace Breaker Short 9" is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 356.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Go to shorts I love these shorts! I own 7+ pairs and they are my favorite thing to wear while working out. The waiste band does roll as they start to get older, but other than that they have held up really well and I can't wear any other style anymore.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Frayed/loose threads, pilling, and thinner material. These shorts used to be made of more durable-feeling material (before they went to the fly-flap on the front); now it just feels like thin fabric. The pair I have has a frayed thread about a centimeter long on the crotch, and there are three spots with pilling by one of the pockets. And I'm not sure what the deal with the liner is, but it's looser than the old design, also feels thinner, and rides up easily. I tried these out in the gym, and they work 'just okay', but I'm definitely disappointed in the quality of construction. At this price point, you kind of expect something more well-built - and you would've gotten that with the old style of shorts. I do like that these shorts are currently offered with the lightest-colored option (called "dark cobalt") I've seen in months, and it's a nice change from the dull or black, grey, and slightly-less-black colors. For now, though, I'll stick with the older shorts that are still holding up just fine, and without any loose threads or pilled fabric.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Offer Some Solid Color Options for Men's Pace Breaker Shorts bedsides just Black I own numerous pairs of the Pace Breaker shorts and love them, but it's been several years since I bought a new pair mainly because the designers of the shorts only offer these patterns and weird prints with boring and dull colors now. The only solid color options offered now seem to just be black. Why does the design team no longer offer just solid colors in the Pace Breaker Short???? Y'all have basically phased me out as a loyal customer due to only offering the shorts in weird patterns and prints and picking only dull colors. Please Go back to your roots and start offering some options that have just solid colors, as I would like to purchase some new shorts but ones that are on the more conservative side. Thanks

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great short if they lasted longer than 3 months These are by far my favorite shorts for running. I train/run for half marathons and need a good, lightweight short that prevents chafing. I have several pairs of these shorts since they are the only shorts I will run in. One thing I have noticed is that the shorts disintegrate at the seams in about 3-4 months. These are some of the most expensive shorts on the market for running. My expectation is that they would last longer than 3-4 months. Any feedback on a solution for this issue would be awesome.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great all-purpose shorts Full-time runner. Part-time yogi, biker & Nordic skier. HOW THEY FIT I recently purchase a size medium of the Pace Breaker Shorts. I’m a 6’0” male with a slim, athletic build. I would describe the fit as OK, but not perfect. I’ve own several pairs of Pace Breakers over the years, and each new pair seems a bit wider than the last—maybe that’s just my perception of it, or maybe my personal preferences have changed over time. I think the Pace Breaker Shorts may fit a little wide on tall, slim guys. Fortunately, the Pace Breakers have a 9” inseam and are trimmer in fit than those baggy-basketball-clown-short you wore in junior high. As for the length, that comes down to personal preference and use. I recommend potential buyers compare the fit of the Pace Breaker Shorts to Lululemon’s T.H.E. Shorts and Surge Shorts to see what feels and looks best for your body type and how like you move. The Pace Breaker Shorts do feel light (lighter than past editions of the Pace Breaker Shorts) and airy when you put them on. I can sprint, jump and squat with a pair of Pace Breaker Shorts on without feeling restricted or showing too much skin—win, win! HOW THEY LOOK My new pair is of the color variety “tour de force jet stream black,” whatever that marketing-speak is supposed to mean. Basically, I have the blue-back mix. (Lululemon: Why the nonsense color names?) The pattern is subtle enough for my taste. From a distance, the shorts appear to be all bluish. The dark pattern seems to hide sweat trails. I like that there are color options beyond just boring black. VERSATILITY The Pace Breaker Shorts are great for multi-sport use. They do what Lululemon products do best, which is give you an almost naked, but supported feeling while the garment wicks away the sweat. As an added plus, the length and fit of the Core Short are modest enough for a post-workout brunch with friends. I can wear them for yoga, strength training, short bike rides, hoops, softball and hiking. I wear older pairs for yard work and hanging around the house. When travelling, I throw one pair of Pace Breaker Shorts in my suitcase, and that covers my lower half for whatever athletic activity I might do. I have even used them for swimming laps in a hotel pool and taking dips in the ocean. I wouldn’t recommend them as an outright bathing suit replacement, but they are functional as a bathing suit pinch-hitter, if that metaphor makes sense. ON THE RUN I’m a runner first and foremost. While I have worn my new Pace Breaker Shorts for long runs and a half-marathon—where they performed great!!!—I now prefer the Surge Short/Tight line a bit more for intense speed work, long runs, marathons and races with a PR goal. That being said, Pace Breaker Shorts are an important part of my running wardrobe. I tend to wear Pace Breaker Shorts for short- and medium-length training runs, and/or when the weather is chilly. The fit and performance of the Core Short is especially well-suited for a combo workout, such as yoga routine before a run, or a run with some weight lifting afterwards. I still wear Pace Breaker Shorts for distances races on occasion, depending on the weather conditions and my post-race plans. WEATHER As a Lululemon staple, the Pace Breaker Shorts are great for hot yoga, so they are also perform well in the heat and humidity. I run in the Pace Breaker Shorts for temps from 45 degrees Fahrenheit and up. I have also worn Pace Breaker Shorts for outdoor activities in extreme desert heat. The Pace Breaker Shorts wick well enough for running in the light rain, but don’t confuse them with rain pants. UTILITY The Pace Breaker Shorts are likely a good balance between utility and minimalism for most people. However, I wish the Pace Breaker Shorts had a key pouch in the waistband or another secure storage option. I’m envious of the waistband storage options I see on the women’s Lululemon product line. While the features may not translate entirely to the men’s side, long distance runners need a secure place to stash a key, and another place to keep some nutrition, like a gel pack or two. Granted, Pace Breakers are not a cargo short, so they’re not really meant for hauling around tons of gear, but can we at least get a key pouch and/or a rear zippered pocket, too? (I thought older models had a key pouch.) The zippered side pocket is roomy and easy to access on the move. I generally don’t run or workout with my phone. My older model iPhone does fit in the zippered pocket, for those curious. The pocket is high enough on the shorts that stuff doesn’t bounce around too much on a run. The non-zippered side pockets make the shorts practical for athleisure, but they aren’t useful for securing items during athletic activities, and they may even get in the way at times. I do like having the side pockets on the Pace Breaker Shorts though, but I like that the Surge Shorts are sans pockets. I appreciate the contrasting features between different product offerings. The two pockets on the Pace Breakers are deep enough for carrying your wallet and phone when walking around. DURABILITY I had a pair of Pace Breaker Shorts that I wore multiple times a week for four or five years until the lining recently tore. I use a dollar-per-wear metric to evaluate my clothing purchases, so I think they were a pretty good value. I hope my newer pair will hold up as well. If you’re a new buyer, note that Lululemon products require proper care, which is spelled out on the label. I always wash my Lululemon athletic gear on a cold, gentle cycle. I don’t ever put them in the dryer (unless it’s by accident). I drape them over a rack to dry, rather than hanging them on a hook—maybe this helps ensure my performance and durability issues over time. Durablity probably comes down to use. The material of the Pace Breaker is thin and stretchy, so I wouldn’t wear them for running through torn bushes or climbing up barbed wire fences. I will do a follow up review if I experience any durability issues with my new Pace Breaker Shorts. LINING The newer Pace Breaker Short liners feels like an improvement over past editions. According to a Lululemon educator, the lining is made of their Luxtreme fabric, which is “sweat-wicking and silky smooth, but they also have added Lycra for retention.” I second the product claims. The educator said the Core Short liner is the same material in the Lock ‘Em Down Boxer, for those who may prefer a liner-less, mix-and-match approach to your athletic underwear/over-wear attire. Overall, I’m pleased with the comfort and performance of the liner. It’s just supportive enough without suffocating things down-there. No unexpected chaffing—in fact, less chaffing than other brands under similar conditions of use. As an aside, I’m yet to find a piece of apparel that won’t cause a least some chaffing under very intense, hot, long-duration athletic activity. So, while I’m pleased with the new Pace Breaker liner, I still use a bit of Body Glide where my legs and crotch meet when I head out for a long runs over 10 miles or so—that’s something a Lululemon product can’t reasonably address. SUMMARY The Pace Breakers are a great all-purpose short. I consider them a gateway for entry to Lululemon products. Get a friend to buy just one pair and they become Lululemon convert.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing Shorts - Rip too easily These are by far my favorite shorts, and I've bought several of these over the past few months (currently I have 3 that I use in rotation). I run around 20-30 miles per week and these have been the best shorts for preventing any chafing. They are pretty stylish and I usually wear them as casual shorts as well. It would be great if there was a 7inch version with a boxer length liner. The only downfall Ive had with these shorts is that the liner rips too easily...usually within a couple of months. Once the liner rips...it compromises the shorts and I start chafing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shorts I bought these shorts for my boyfriend and he has bought SEVERAL more over the last few years. The liner did rip on one pair but he definitely felt they had fulfilled their cost per wear by that point and has continued to buy more colours. His racket club requires white attire on the courts and he would buy a new white pair at least once a year. Any chance the whites will come back?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from New Zipper Pull Grips Bad Quality I own many different versions of the Run Response/Pace Breaker Short from recent years (2011-present). The latest mid-2017 version has new silver and black zipper pulls that (I'm guessing) are supposed to help with grip but do just the opposite. While I like the new design of the zipper, the plastic grip on it is not durable at all and has already ripped. I had to take my newest pair of PBs to a store to exchange for the early-2017 version with the fully-solid silver zipper. BRING BACK the zippers from 2012 that had removable zipper pull grips that made zipping that tiny pocket a single-handed ordeal, whereas these tiny zippers require both-hands to close. I wish the secured pocket would be large enough to fit phones bigger than an iPhone SE like the 6S/7 Plus! I also hope an updated version will change the Breathelight liner back to the old Game On Boxer Brief liner with COOLMAX &/or silverescent woven in! The current Breathelight seems to soak up more sweat than the old fabric probably b/c of more polyester.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Expected better quality for the price I own three pairs of these shorts and use them only for Hot Yoga. They provide good support, hold up well over the 75 minute session with the extreme sweat that is generated in the class. I rotate them once a week - so use once, machine wash/dry each week. I've had these for 6 months and now the supporting liner inside the shorts seems to be tearing for 2 of these shorts. I've tried to sew up the little tears but there are new tears which have appeared. Shame really, as I like these a lot, but for the price I expect better quality.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Okay Shorts I am a fitness instructor who does personal training and teaches group classes.. I really love the feel and quality of the shorts and tank tops, but have grown to be disappointed lately. I own a few pairs of these 9" Pace Breaker shorts and a couple of the 7" Pace Breaker shorts . After about 4 times wearing one of the 9" Pace Breaker shorts, the leg seams are coming out and it looks like the thread rolls into balls. I also noticed a small hole and am afraid it will grow bigger. I really do like these shorts and the design, but I am disappointed how they are not very durable.
